Kindle Readers Beware--This is NOT the Moss-Covered Mansion

I bought this book on Kindle, but it is NOT "Nancy Drew 18: Mystery of the Moss-Covered Mansion." I don't know what book Amazon (or the publisher) sent me instead using this title, but it is not the same book. I have the original book on my book shelf at home, and it took place well before the Kennedy Space Center was named such (original copyright date of 1941). The original was actually a very good story and one of my favorite Nancy Drew mysteries. This "pseudo-story" is blaaaaaah. Isn't there some kind of quality control to ensure a title gets delivered to the Kindle with the correct corresponding story? Wouldn't this be a copyright infringement by sending this story attached to the wrong title? I'm really asking--I don't know copyright law. I feel cheated by being lured to buy this book, when it wasn't the real thing.

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK ON KINDLE--IT'S A FAKE!

My 9 year old granddaughter suggested that two books in one would be easier to carry, so that's what we bought. She loved both books, proving that some things endure the test of time - Nancy is one of them.

The editors are engaged in a constant process of revision and improvement of the translations and commentaries always making it relevant with the latest developments in biblical scholarship and with the real situations of the people. There have been more than one hundred fifty editions in different languages of the Christian Community Bible and many millions of copies distributed which have helped the faithful in many local churches to understand and assimilate better the Word of God.

Excelent Volume

I have this volume, and love it, as the larger print in the biblical text represents those passages that are read in the Catholic Liturgy (Mass). Just flipping through this awesome Bible, you can see that Catholics receive teaching on nearly the complete in the post Vatican II's 3 year cycle of readings. I love the study notes, as they are copious and cover 99.9% of the biblical text... The best thing about it is the price is down to earth, and not sky high as with many copies of the Scriptures... The 1st portion is an excellent introduction with many helps that you don't normally find in a Catholic Bible such as an 'index to the Bible, a Chronology of the Gospels, a listing of 'Catholic Teachings and where to find them in the Bible. Just an excellent resource for the Bible Student/Professor... to have in their library...

I was a little disappointed but.

Thank you for prompt shipping. I find the 9 pt. print smaller than I imagined......and I used to set type! I did NOT find the book heavy! I expected a larger book. Naturally I haven't read the whole thing yet......so I cannot comment on the scholarly content. I was a little disappointed but...I guess the get what you pay for and the price was VERY LOW so....since it is NEW....I received a fair value for the money. You get what you pay for! It's pretty but not very large.....Not large enough for an expensive book end! Although dimensions are as advertised. I'll live with it. I am glad now that I ordered a companion study bible to go with it. ( from Amazon). Hope I like it better than this one. It is pretty.

The Geonim and their circles enshrined the Babylonian Talmud as the central canonical work of rabbinic literature and the leading guide to religious practice, and it was a predominantly Babylonian version of Judaism that was transplanted to newer centers of Judaism in North Africa and Europe. Robert Brody’s book—the first survey in English of the Geonic period in almost a century—focuses on the cultural milieu of the Geonim and on their intellectual and literary creativity.

Brody describes the cultural spheres in which the Geonim were active and the historical and cultural settings within which they functioned. He emphasizes the challenges presented by other Jewish institutions and individuals, ranging from those within the Babylonian Jewish setting—especially the political leadership represented by the Exilarch—to the competing Palestinian Jewish center and to sectarian movements and freethinkers who rejected rabbinic authority altogether. He also describes the variety of ways in which the development of Geonic tradition was affected by the surrounding non-Jewish cultures, both Muslim and Christian.

Using Alcuin's remonstrance as both theme and context for their detailed examination of a remarkable literary corpus, the authors provide a critical reading of Old English texts and a survey of the scholarly literature about them. This "drastic revision" of Greenfield's 1965 work includes a new survey of Anglo-Latin prose by Michael Lapidge and a consideration of works previously omitted. In his newly extended survey of the prose, Calder takes account of the growing scholarship on prose texts and also demonstrates that Old English prose is as considerable an achievement as the poetry. This book is a great read, with many illuminating discussions from two solid scholars. Very good for figuring out what the field of Anglo-Saxon studies was like a few decades back. Lapidge's chapter is especially valuable and enduring.

About the Author

David Pietramala is head coach of the Johns Hopkins University's men's lacrosse team. A 1990 graduate of Hopkins, he is the only person to win the NCAA Division I lacrosse championship as both a player (1987) and head coach (2005 and 2007). Twice winner of the William C. Schmeisser Award as the nation's top defenseman, the 1989 winner of the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award as the nation's top player, and a three-time first-team All-American, he is regarded as having been one of the finest defensemen of all time. Neil A. Grauer is an award-winning author, freelance journalist, and caricaturist. A third generation graduate of the Johns Hopkins University, he is the author of six books, including Wits & Sages(Johns Hopkins University Press, 1984), a series of profiles and caricatures of leading syndicated columnists, and Remember Laughter: A Life of James Thurber (University of Nebraska Press, 1994).

A wonderful update to Bob Scott's original

Coach Pietramala really brought the original text into the 21st century, and has updated it to reflect the current state of play. His coverage of both individual offense/defense is second to none, and his knowledge and love of the game is readily apparent. He gives a lot of great insights into coaching by highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of his individual players past and present, and explaining how they capitalized on their strengths and compensated for their weakness was extremely helpful for me as a new coach.

If you are serious about increasing your lacrosse IQ and upping your game, either as a coach or player, then you absolutely need to have this book in your hands to read over the summer, and then on your bookshelf to refer back to when needed. The coach has poured his heart into creating it, and we can all benefit from the effort that he has put into the text.

I loved reading about the Hopkins tradition at the end of the book, and wish Coach Pietramala and the Hopkins program continued success.

I have to boys 11 and 13 that love this sport. I grew up with football, baseball and basketball and had no idea what lacrosse was. I happened to meet a pro coach at a tournament and asked him how he learned the game. His answerer was "Bob Scotts Book" - I ordered it on my iphone on the spot. This book has it all.

This book doesn't just describe plays and strategies but goes in to how to better develop an athlete and make him or her a better lacrosse player. Drills, play, and how to play as a team are covered but it also gives ideas on how to become a better coach as well as being a stronger, more intelligent player.

introduction to neurosurgery for the junior medical student

Kaye provides a concise introduction to neurosurgery with good coverage of major topics. Chapters are short and enable the student to read while on rounds. Ideally, you would supplement the reading with a true text or original articles. Nevertheless, a good first start.

Excellent for Rotations

I read this book cover to cover before starting my Neurosurgery subinternship and it really gave me a great overview for the patients I saw in clinic and cases I scrubbed on. The text flows nicely and it is easy to get through in a couple days, yet detailed enough so you can sound intelligent when talking about the topics. Good illustrations too. I would say this is a good read before the rotation starts, and then I recommend Handbook of Neurosurgery while on the rotation for specific cases.

This book has exactly what it promises, the essentials. This reads more like a brief text book over view of topics rather than a how to like the Handbook of Neurosurgery does. It still has its place however as it has a great section in the beginning explaining imaging. It also has good info as far as mortality rates and the like for the conditions listed. It explains the topics (many of which were not covered in my PA program) in a way that any practitioner with a higher than novice level of medicine can understand.

Great Book!

If I didn't have such an accelerated summer course I think I would have enjoyed reading this book much more slowly. It is up to date and really interesting. Makes you think of the retail world differently.. There is so much to learn in Business. I highly recommend this book.

Examining their works we can follow the shaping of contemporary ideas of constitutions, and the design of constitutional texts.

At the same time major constitutional change and upheaval were taking place in America and France. This was an era of intense discussion, examination, and constitution-making. The new nation of the United States looked to authors such as Locke, Hume, Harrington, and Sydney for guidance in their search for a new republicanism, adding to the development of constitutional thought and practice. This collection includes chapters examining the influences of Madison, Hamilton, Jefferson, and Adams. In France the influence of Rousseau was apparent in the revolutionary constitution, and Sieyes was an active participant in its discussion and design. Montesquieu and de Maistre reflected on the nature of constitutions and constitutional government, and these French writers drew on, engaged with, and challenged the British and American writers. The essays in this volume reveal a previously unexplored dynamic relationship between the authors of the three nations, explaining the intimate connection between ruler and ruled.
