Charlotte Salomon Rediscovered

I have been fascinated by the life of the artist Charlotte Salomon who died at the age of 26 at Auschwitz, ever since I found a remaindered copy of a book of her paintings, Charlotte: A Life in Pictures many years ago. I was delighted to discover this poignant fictional biography by David Foenkinos which captures many sides of her personality. Every now and then, the author exits the story to tells us something about his research, then re enters the narrative, making for jarring if interesting breaks in the story. The French is also very easy to read.
