Wealth of Information

I'm still in the middle of this book. Some of it is a little silly, and I gleam over those parts in a rush. They are relatively few and far in between, and the wealth of useful knowledge and insight throughout the rest of the book is worth it. I am beginning to apply many of the principles for the first time... its not a magic formula, but it has initiated noticeable progress where before I was stagnating for some time. Its small and easy to carry around to read when you only have one or two minutes available.

The only strange thing about this edition is that authorship is credited to Napoleon Hill, but much of the book speaks of Hill in third person, as if the revising author (who I think is W. Clement Stone) takes liberty to speak on behalf of the original author.

The gun resounds across the City of Edinburgh, and will be missed terribly if it does not go off. As we live with this kind of repetition, so our lives are dependent on the repetition of our heart beats. The day that beat stops forever, our lives are over, just as when the clocks stop, time stands still. One of Nostradamus’s predictions are about to come true. Andy is unaware of the disruption of those elements his watch is about to cause, and innocently shows it off to his friends in the park. Andy and his wife Amy Johnston live in an old Edinburgh City Tenement, above which the Castle looms. They rely each day on the one o’clock gun going off in the castle, even though the loud boom rocks the dishes on the kitchen shelf, and just about bursts their ear drums when it goes off, Edinburgh would not be the same without it.
So far time has passed over Nostradamus’s predictions, of life and the world coming to an end. Panic strikes in cities all over the United Kingdom, when suddenly, and unexpectedly, Big Ben begins losing time, and the one o clock gun in Edinburgh fires too soon. There must be a reason! All clocks begin to lose time or stop altogether. When people begin to keel over and die of obvious sudden and unexplained heart failure, panic takes hold. Andy and Amy eventually can’t take it anymore when their neighbours begin fighting because they don’t understand what is happening to them. They then decide to pack a few bags and travel to Amy’s sister Ellie who lives in the Northern Hebrides.
Andy has time to think when on the train, and eventually realizes the meaning of strange dreams he has been having, and discovers he has oracle powers. He actually had predicted the standing still of time, when he was a boy, and now it is all coming to light. Great Book!

Initially I purchased the 2nd edition of this book, but realized that some of the chapters were updated and that I would have access to the online material, so I purchased it. The questions are extremely helpful for the NCLEX PDA questions, but also SATA (select all that apply) too. The book also has case studies that really help you critically think about the situations. However, the online material includes the same questions (including the case studies) that are in the book. If you prefer to not have the physical book, you can purchase the online questions for around $20. This helps you gain practice of taking a computerized test. They have two modes, exam mode and study mode. You can also test yourself based on the chapters, concepts, QSEN competencies, etc.

I gave this only 4 stars because although it is an excellent book, it would've been better to see additional questions available online rather than the same questions that are in the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is taking the NCLEX. It is extremely helpful and includes the rationales for each question. But, like I said, if you don't have to have the physical book, it really isn't necessary since all the material is available for a decent price online on the evolve website.

A MUST for RN Boards

definitely get this book prior to Boards its the only book that makes clear since in how and why the correct answers are correct, it is a thin book easy to read with 3 pages to each chapter. BUT, your way of thinking will be completely clearer on how to think on answering all questions. Donna

I rented this book on the advice from my NCLEX coordinator after I failed the exam the first time with 265 questions. I had used Kaplan the first time around and spent two weeks hardcore prepping. I was devastated especially since I already had a job offer. This book really helped me focus on just prioritization per staff role and tx of pts. Along with this book, I used Saunders and Davis. The second time around, I passed with 75 questions and all of them felt too easy to be true. Forget all the money you pay for companies like Kaplan and spend the $20 renting LaCharity instead!
