Important collection of essays

This is an important and by no means uncritical collection of essays. Like so many other critics, it neglects Camus' collection of stories, Exile and the Kingdom, which ought to be considered as a single work as well as a collection of marvelous individual stories. Lovers of Camus the artist will find much to enjoy quarreling with, but also much to learn from.

Great Book!

Initially I purchased the 2nd edition of this book, but realized that some of the chapters were updated and that I would have access to the online material, so I purchased it. The questions are extremely helpful for the NCLEX PDA questions, but also SATA (select all that apply) too. The book also has case studies that really help you critically think about the situations. However, the online material includes the same questions (including the case studies) that are in the book. If you prefer to not have the physical book, you can purchase the online questions for around $20. This helps you gain practice of taking a computerized test. They have two modes, exam mode and study mode. You can also test yourself based on the chapters, concepts, QSEN competencies, etc.

I gave this only 4 stars because although it is an excellent book, it would've been better to see additional questions available online rather than the same questions that are in the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is taking the NCLEX. It is extremely helpful and includes the rationales for each question. But, like I said, if you don't have to have the physical book, it really isn't necessary since all the material is available for a decent price online on the evolve website.

A MUST for RN Boards

definitely get this book prior to Boards its the only book that makes clear since in how and why the correct answers are correct, it is a thin book easy to read with 3 pages to each chapter. BUT, your way of thinking will be completely clearer on how to think on answering all questions. Donna

I rented this book on the advice from my NCLEX coordinator after I failed the exam the first time with 265 questions. I had used Kaplan the first time around and spent two weeks hardcore prepping. I was devastated especially since I already had a job offer. This book really helped me focus on just prioritization per staff role and tx of pts. Along with this book, I used Saunders and Davis. The second time around, I passed with 75 questions and all of them felt too easy to be true. Forget all the money you pay for companies like Kaplan and spend the $20 renting LaCharity instead!

A real wake up call1

I really didn't know what to expect when I decided to purchase this book, but I'm glad I did. Reading this book was truly the "wake up" call I needed to confirm that I was on the right path regarding spirituality in tandem with my Black identity. I've more than struggled along the way with knowing God, but I've always been totally Black conscious. This book perfectly illustrates that pro-Black awareness is wholly in sync with spiritual development. Actually, if you are a Black person one cannot go without the other. The Blacker you become, the more intuned with God you become. It can be a lonely journey but it's one worthy of taking....life affirming and lifesaving. Buy the book!

Amazing Journalism

This is not just another JFK book. The author doesn't offer any conspiracy theories or apologies for investigations less than perfect. But what IS here is the most comprehensive book ever written about the people involved...from the Oswalds to the Rubys, the Warren Commission members, the cops, the Dallas kooks and the charlatans who have made a living out of fooling a saddened world.
This book is an amazing product of a journalist who has been in the front lines for 40 years -- covering every aspect of the case. It's the most human story every told about those 40 years and an honest search for the truth.
And though I thought there could be nothing new about the JFK case, I was surprised at how much really IS told for the first time here.

Hugh Aynesworth has done more first-hand investigative reporting on the JFK assassination than any reporter I know. He is also the only reporter who was in Dealey Plaza during the assassination, at the Texas Theater during the capture of Oswald, and in the police basement with us when Ruby shot Oswald. About the Author
Gordon L Rottman entered the US Army in 1967, volunteered for Special Forces and completed training as a weapons specialist. He served in the 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam in 1969-70 and subsequently in airborne infantry, long-range patrol and intelligence assignments until retiring after 26 years. He was a special operations forces scenario writer at the Joint Readiness Training Center for 12 years and is now a freelance writer, living in Texas.

This review is for two volumes of the Osprey Publishing Elite series. The books are "World War II Allied Sabotage Devices and Booby Traps" and "World War II Axis Booby Traps and Sabotage Tactics" by Gordon Rottman.

These books cover a subject often neglected or overlooked in military history; and if covered is played down in its effectiveness, due to the "ungentlemanly" conduct of these tactics. There have been very few pictorial accounts on the subject and these Osprey titles add to the material currently available. Both of the books are not an definitive study, however they do vividly cover the salient points of these "guerrilla" tactics.

The books cover Allied and Axis booby trap devices designed to harm or surprise a person, unknowingly triggered by the presence or actions of the victim. As the word "trap" implies, they often have some form of bait designed to lure the victim towards it. However, in other cases the device is placed on busy roads or is triggered when the victim performs some type of everyday action e.g. opening a door, picking something up or switching something on. Lethal booby traps are often used in warfare, particularly guerrilla warfare and partisan operations. The Effects of booby traps in addition to the obvious ability of booby traps to kill or injure, their presence has other effects. These include psychological effects, slow down operations, create no-go zones, expand logistical and manpower to counter such threats and create confusion. Additionally, booby traps are indiscriminate weapons; like anti-personnel mines they can harm civilians and other non-combatants (during and after the conflict) who are unaware of their presence.

Sabotage operations and training for the Axis and Allies of World War II consisted of teaching would-be saboteurs the key components to working machinery on which to focus their destruction. Saboteurs were highly trained in explosives and targeted military physical infrastructure during partisan operation, like railroads, fuel points and arms manufacturing plants.
Overall, a lot of the referenced material can be found in obsolete military manuals and on-line, however these books have packaged the information in a nicely packaged and easy to understand format. In my opinion I found the books to be a very good introduction to the subject.

These include psychological effects, slow down operations, create no-go zones, expand logistical and manpower to counter such threats and create confusion. Additionally, booby traps are indiscriminate weapons; like anti-personnel mines they can harm civilians and other non-combatants (during and after the conflict) who are unaware of their presence.

Sabotage operations and training done by both Axis and Allies of World War II consisted of teaching would-be saboteurs the key components to working machinery on which to focus their destruction. Saboteurs were highly trained in explosives and targeted military physical infrastructure during partisan operation, like railroads, fuel points and arms manufacturing plants.

Within the limits of the the Osprey Range Gordon's books are well written, interesting, factual, backed by thorough research and incorporates information often left out of other books on WWII by Osprey. Usually includes technical details, tactics, organizations and examples of use.

This book explores the use of Axis Booby traps - hidden traps left in the area just abandoned by Axis units (mostly German, the Japanese didn't use them much in comparison) to slow down and disrupt pursuing Allied units. A dirty business still being used in the world - improvised explosive devices. In the case of the German Heer (Army) not so improvised.

There is a companion volume on Allied booby traps as well.
